Despite unfortunate rainy weather, we held “Additional Time in Shianbashi: From Stadium City!” in Shianbashi. This event became a special day where Nagasaki’s tradition and the present came together.
Even in the rain, many visitors came out, and thanks to the powerful performance of Ginyamachi’s “suetaiko” drums and the warm support of local residents, the venue stayed lively from start to finish.
We on staff want to share with everyone the wonder of the “bonds within the community” that we felt anew through this event.
The Road to the Event, Undaunted by the Weather

Passion Behind the Scenes, Unstoppable Even in Rain
It rained continuously from the morning of the event, and there were moments when we worried the event might not go ahead. But thanks to the dedicated support of everyone involved, we were able to hold the event as planned.
In particular, the staff who took part in setting up the venue and preparing the sound equipment had to work in the rain, yet not one of them complained, and everyone moved forward with preparations in good spirits.
A Moment When the Community Came Together

The people of Kojiyamachi explored every possibility of sending out the kawabune (boat float) right up to the last moment. Unfortunately it did not come to be, but we were deeply moved by their passion in preparing even the boat’s decorations to perfection.
Event Highlights
A Miraculous Suetaiko Performance
During Ginyamachi’s suetaiko drum performance, as if the heavens themselves were on our side, the rain miraculously stopped for exactly the duration of the performance. The powerful sound of the drums echoing through the venue etched the weight of Nagasaki’s tradition and the spirit within it deep into the hearts of everyone present.

Thanks to the two professionals, Mr. Karasuyama and Mr. Nagatomi, the venue was wrapped in a warm atmosphere from start to finish. Mr. Karasuyama’s flexible hosting and Mr. Nagatomi’s excellent choice of music created a space that everyone could enjoy even in the rain.
A Support System Built on Community Unity
Vendors and Supporters
Despite the poor footing, many people helped out, including Mr. Horiguchi, who ran a kitchen car, and Mr. Kono of Z-ya, who provided the dragon dance rental. Everyone’s dedicated support underpinned the success of this event.
Cooperation with the City and Related Organizations
Many organizations cooperated with us, including the Commercial Promotion Division and the Downtown Business Promotion Office, as well as Regional Creation, the University of Nagasaki, the Dozamachi Shopping Street, the Hamanomachi Shopping Street, Motoshikkuimachi, and the Shianbashi Yokocho Association.
Thanks to everyone who acted as a bridge within the community, this event was able to reach a wide audience.

“Additional Time in Shianbashi: From Stadium City!” truly became a treasure built through the combined strength of “Team Shianbashi.”
Despite the poor weather, many visitors came out, and the venue was filled with smiles from start to finish. We feel this is exactly the resilience of Nagasaki’s Shianbashi.
